Hello hello … This week I want to tackle makeup for the everyday ride.
The struggle is real if you don’t want to look like a mess going to the barn but also not all made up, a effortless look that shows that you care. And that looks good on pictures too :). After years of trial and error I have found what works for me and my skin and I want to share it with you.
FACE
I have used countless foundations from Dior to Laura Mercier and I always come back to the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. It has light coverage, but still evens out your skin tone and a plus is that has SPF. I’m the shade Creamy Natural, but there is plenty of shades to choose from. For concealers … I use a lot I must admit. I have particularly bad and noticeable dark circles that are pretty difficult to cover. I start as a base with the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in medium (as you can see I love the line) that is quite good, but a bit thin. For the really bad days I also use on top Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer that is a true gem. Sadly not easily obtainable outside the UK, but works wonders as its thick and long lasting. Others that I have tried that work well are the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer on the affordable side and the NARS Creamy Concealer if you want to splurge. The L’Oreal Touche Magique in Natural Beige (this one also hard to find 🙁 ). I use it to brighten the under eye area next to the nose that tends to get pretty shadowy for me. This last one can be considered a dupe for the YSL Touche Eclat, but in my opinion way better in price and performance. My last step for the under eyes is to set everything with the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder in 1. Another excellent option instead the last one is the e.l.f. Undereye Setting Powder that has pretty similar results but a fraction of the price. If I have blemishes I use also the Collection concealer that works good for that. Lastly I settle everything with the Laura Mercier Setting Powder in Translucent. The Rimmel Stay Matte in Translucent is also very good.
EYES
I have oily eye lids so for me primer is a must. I use the Collection eye primer, another really good option is NARS. I start with a base of cream eye shadow that can be Rimmel Scandaleyes in Trespassing Taupe or Maybelline Color Tattoo in Creamy Beige. To settle that I use either Wet n Wild‘s Brûlée or Chameleon by Calvin Klein (that I think is discontinued) depending on my mood for matte or shimmer. For mascara I use Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch that’s good for definition and lengthen.
CHEEKS
I like my blushes shimmery and think Milani is one of the best with affordable prices. Currently I have Blossomtime Rose (I was obviously lured by the beautiful rose) and Dolce Pink. Another great option and ever more affordable is Wet n Wild Pearlescent Pink that people say is a dupe for NARS Orgasm. For highlight I use a tinny amount of Benefit High Beam (be careful with the amount because you can end up with checks like disco balls).
BASE AND FINISH
If my skin is going through a rough phase I use L’Oreal Perfecting Base to smooth everything before the foundation. And after finishing with the application I spay Make Up For Ever Mist and Fix to lock everything into place and prolong the wearing time.
What other products that you use are good for looking nice at the barn?

It’s hard to find the right balance between coverage and glamour for the barn. I usually only wear tinted moisturizer, light blush and lip stain unless I’m going out for the evening. Of course in summer this sweats off within minutes.

Oh, wow! I almost never wear make-up, like at all. I haven’t worn makeup for about a month, and when I came to work wearing mascara, the first thing that happened was that my co-worker walked up to me, stared me in the eyes and went “your eyes are so pretty”. I had a laugh! I am too lazy to bother with makeup unless I am doing something important! But kudos to you for this!
